We would like to invite you to join the Atlantshaf (Atlantic) Icelandic Sheepdog Chapter, currently encompassing the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. Here we hope to provide area Icelandic Sheepdog owners with a network of fun like minded folks to organize to meet, compete and promote this fabulous breed.
Events such as informal gatherings, meet the breed events, fun matches and the eventual AKC sponsored conformation, obedience, rally and agility matches will be planned. These events are not just geared towards the performance dog or the show dog but also our wonderful pets. Many activities will be planned so all dogs will be included regardless of whether they are altered or intact or level of obedience skills for fun for the whole family.
Membership: Any Icelandic Sheepdog owner who is a member of the ISAA in good standing is welcome to join. There is a $10.00 annual fee per household which include a quarterly e-newsletter, discounted entry fees. The AISC adheres to the bylaws and code of ethics of the ISAA.
First Event 2007: The AISC is happy to announce that our first fun match was held on June 10th in Turbridge, Vt. Along with enjoying the New England countryside, lots of good food and plenty of Icelandic Sheepdogs to keep you company there was a conformation event open to all with an AKC judge present to officiate. Ribbons were awarded and great raffle items were bid on by everyone.
Second Event 2007: The AISC hosted a fun match in Hagerstown, Md. on August 25th . There was lots of fun competitions for all levels of obedience and a conformation event with an AKC judge present. Ribbons were awarded and more great raffle items won. There were 45 dogs present, making this the largest gathering of our fuzzy butts, to date, in the USA. Many Thanks to those who help make this event such a success. Also Thanks to everyone who took the time to come and play with us all.
Third Event 2008: While everybody is gearing up and getting excited about conformation and performance events, I'd like to announce the AISC's planned Gathering. We are still pulling it together but ISAA and AISC members Mary Claire and Leo Johnston have generously offered to host our 2nd Annual Gathering at Fogles Dog training Center near Altoona, PA. We have our Conformation judge, he's an approved AKC Misc. class judge whose past assignments have been several other Spitz type breeds, we are sponsoring a CGC and we hope to do TDI in connection with it. There will be an "Agility 101 demo" given by Lois and a few other exciting things in the works. Below is just a little bit about our new Gathering location

The 2009 AISC Gathering
The AISC has a fun and educational weekend planned for Icelandic Sheepdog owners
far and wide the weekend of August 21, 22, and 23 2009 in Woodbine Maryland. The
event to be held at the Saltbox Ball Field on Gillis Falls Road, Woodbine, Maryland; is a
charming secluded location having two fully fenced ball fields, plenty of parking, two
pavillions in a shady valley bordered by a wooded stream and usually a cornfield atop the
other hill.
Friday brings our meet and greet from 5:00 pm - 8:30pm with a light dinner for any out of
towners that need to let the dogs stretch their legs and burn off that excess energy! We'll
be there most of the day so if you want to come sooner your welcome to although .......
you may get put to work!
Saturday is our big day with mini seminars given by Linda Gray, DVM of Wholistic
Veterinary Medicine on Holistic Medicine for our ISD's, Nancy Williams, CAAB, on how to
curb some of our Canines Bad Behaviors, Mason-Dixon Rescue Dogs will becoming to
tell us how we might become involved in Search and Rescue with our dogs, do a Demo
for us and will do a preliminary evaluation for anyone who might want to get involved in
Search and Rescue work with their ISD. For more information about our fabulous
speakers see below.
AKC judge Jay Hyman will be coming out to judge our annual Conformation match,
Puppy classes, Junior Handler classes, Open and Veteran classes are available for all
dogs altered and intact of all ages. Handling skills are not a prerequisite the judges do
understand that it is to introduce all attendees to the dog sports and to help them meet
the breed. Try to practice showing the dogs bite and having them stand while someone
runs their hands down them as if they are being examined, that is where the new kids
start to get squirmy. Otherwise it is a usually a painless three minute process, Judge
Hyman has agreed to do a handling class prior to the conformation event for all who wish
to give it a go.
We will also be having our super annual raffle to help fund future events as well as
having Therapy Dog International/Canine Good Citizen evaluators there so you can earn
those certifications for your dog ( a must have to do Search and Rescue work!) if you are
able to volunteer an hour or two to help other ISDs earn these certifications it would be
much appreciated. Refreshments will be available throughout the day with lunch and
dinner being made available as well.
Sunday is our big Fun Day with Agility Fun Match, this is an anything goes, all skill level
course. It lets our dogs open up and run beside their owners for treats and praise.
